Recap, a leader in crypto tax calculation services, is drawing up big plans for the future following its recent Innovate UK grant win.

Marking a significant milestone in its mission to revolutionise crypto asset management - the £300k grant will be used to spearhead the development of a groundbreaking privacy-focused collaborative crypto tax and client due diligence platform for accountants and professional services.

At the helm of this innovative initiative, Recap has brought together a consortium of industry experts - namely pioneers in source of fund analytics, Hoptrail, and top UK crypto specialist accountancy firms Andersen LLP and Wright Vigar. This collaborative effort will work to strengthen the platform's ability to streamline and automate the tracking and processing of crypto asset transactions, reduce the arduous tasks of manual data entry and management, and empower customer onboarding with trusted source of fund checks - culminating in the delivery of an efficient and instantaneous solution.

Speaking about the grant application success, Daniel Howitt, CEO and co-founder of Recap said: "This grant is a testament to our dedication to innovation and our commitment to addressing the evolving needs of the Crypto industry".

We are immensely proud to lead this project alongside esteemed colleagues and partners Andersen LLP, Wright Vigar and Hoptrail, who bring unparalleled expertise in accountancy, tax services and anti-money laundering compliance, respectively. It’s been a pleasure to assemble this team of ‘Crypto Tax Avengers’ to make the first steps towards revolutionising crypto asset management and providing accountancy firms with the powerful tools they need to best serve their clients.

"Our goal is to empower accountancy firms - offering cutting-edge technology that provides AML reassurance in the client onboarding process, as well as the necessary tools to deliver value-added proactive tax planning advice in addition to top-tier digital asset taxation support. As HMRC urges crypto holders to disclose gains, now is the perfect time for those accountants and financial service providers looking to expand their digital asset offering to take the next steps. With the support of Innovate UK and our esteemed collaborators, Recap is poised to lead the charge as the go-to solution provider for crypto tax and client due diligence".

Innovate UK’s grant will fund a 12-month project, already underway - representing a significant investment in Recap’s growth trajectory, with plans for its current team of five to expand significantly with new hires. Playing a key role in the expansion of Lincoln’s digital hub, Recap’s ambitious drive to become the go-to provider for cryptocurrency accounting software will also help boost the city’s economic landscape.

Which crypto exchanges report to HMRC? Major platforms compared (2026)

UK reporting cryptoasset service providers are collecting customer data for 2026 and must send their first CARF reports to HMRC by 31 May 2027; overseas providers may report through their own tax authorities instead. This guide compares the expected route for each platform we cover, links to our detailed guide on each, and explains how to work out the position for any exchange not covered here.

Does Luno report to HMRC? (2025/26 UK guide)

There is no public confirmation that Luno routinely reports UK customer data to HMRC, but that is not the whole story. HMRC can request exchange data under its statutory powers, and from 1 January 2026 the UK's Cryptoasset Reporting Framework requires in-scope providers to report customer data annually, with the first reports due by 31 May 2027. Whether and where Luno reports has not been publicly confirmed. Meanwhile, Luno has wound down service for customers in regions it no longer serves: its notice says affected accounts closed on 31 August 2026, with service unavailable from 1 September; the public guidance does not name the affected regions, so check the notice Luno sent you. Here is what HMRC can see, where Luno stands with UK regulators, what the closure means for your tax, and how to get your records now.

Does Bybit report to HMRC? (2025/26 UK guide)

It depends which Bybit you mean. Since December 2025 there have effectively been two: Bybit's UK platform, made available under an Archax-approved financial-promotion arrangement and offering spot and P2P trading; and the older global Bybit platform, a Dubai-based offshore venue from a UK user's perspective, which most UK users have traded on. Bybit itself is not FCA-authorised. Assume HMRC can obtain or receive Bybit-related data either way: UK-side activity is the kind CARF's rules are designed to capture, and the global platform is reachable through UK on and off-ramp records, HMRC's information powers against UK-connected data holders, and international exchange, including CARF where the overseas provider is in scope. Here is what that means and how to get your tax right.
