Cryptax is a specialist crypto tax advisory firm based in Bromborough on the Wirral, serving clients across the UK. It was founded in 2021 by Alex Jones, a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) who has invested in crypto since 2017.
Most accountants avoid complex crypto; Cryptax seeks it out. The firm handles thousands of transactions across multiple chains, including DeFi lending and borrowing on Aave, Compound and Sky, liquidity pools and yield farming, leveraged and perpetual DEX positions, NFTs, airdrops, and FTX and Celsius bankruptcies.
Cryptax deals with HMRC nudge letters, enquiries and disclosures on clients' behalf, brings unfiled years up to date, and can supply a cryptoasset report for clients who already have an accountant. Alex is an active member of the CIOT Cryptoasset Working Group and has contributed to HMRC's DeFi Call for Evidence and cryptoasset roundtables.

Meet the Team
Alex Jones is a Chartered Tax Adviser and the founder of Cryptax. Alex set up the firm in 2021 after nearly a decade in accountancy practice spanning bookkeeping, accounts, payroll and tax, and has been investing in crypto since 2017.
Alex has completed hundreds of tax returns for individuals with complex cryptoasset activity, from DeFi lending, liquidity pools and perpetual DEX trading to NFTs, airdrops and cross-chain transactions, and has handled numerous HMRC nudge letters, disclosures and enquiries on clients' behalf.
Alex is an active member of the CIOT Cryptoasset Working Group and the CryptoUK Tax Working Group, contributed to HMRC's DeFi Call for Evidence directly and via CIOT and CryptoUK, and has been a key contributor to HMRC cryptoasset roundtables.
