Why Nexo Pro tax can be difficult to calculate manually

Nexo Pro is the order-book trading side of Nexo, built for active, higher-volume trading, and that is exactly what makes its tax position hard to pin down by hand. A few things tend to trip people up:

Trading volume and complexity

  • Heavy crypto-to-crypto trading. Pro trading is built around coin-for-coin pairs, and each of those trades is a disposal even though no ordinary money changes hands.
  • Stablecoin pairs. Trading into and out of stablecoins is a disposal, even though it can feel like parking funds rather than selling.

Volume and history

  • High trading volume. Active traders build up hundreds of buys and sells, and every disposal is measured against a cost-basis pool built from the entire history.

Stablecoins and record-keeping

  • A detailed history. The more active the account, the harder an accurate cost basis is to rebuild from exports by hand.

How to import your Nexo Pro data into Recap

Connect your Nexo Pro account to Recap by API and we import your full trading history automatically, including trades, deposits and withdrawals, however far back your account goes. Recap classifies and values every entry with our fair-market valuation engine and applies the tax rules for your jurisdiction, so even a high-volume account resolves into a clear set of gains and losses.

How are Nexo Pro transactions taxed?

Tax treatment depends on the transaction type and where you are tax resident. Here is how the main Nexo Pro activities are generally treated:

How the tax table works

Transaction typeCGT disposalCGT acquisitionIncome
DepositsCGT disposal: no. Nexo Pro's API reports no deposit fee, so no fee disposal arises. Where a deposit is matched to a withdrawal from another of your accounts, Recap combines the two into a single Transfer.CGT acquisition: noIncome: no
WithdrawalsCGT disposal: no. Nexo Pro's API reports no withdrawal fee, so no fee disposal arises. If a crypto fee is added manually it is treated as a disposal of the fee asset.CGT acquisition: noIncome: no
Buying crypto with fiatCGT disposal: no. Disposing fiat is not a chargeable disposal. If the Nexo Pro order fee is charged in a crypto asset, that fee is itself recorded as a disposal of the fee asset. Recap's default: fees emitted as separate fee disposals. Configurable: ‘Deduct fees from trades’ nets a same-asset fee off the amount acquired instead.CGT acquisition: yes. The purchased crypto enters the section 104 pool at the trade value, with the trading fee included in its cost.Income: no
Crypto to cryptoCGT disposal: yes. The asset sold is disposed of at the trade value; crypto-denominated order fees are additionally recorded as fee disposals.CGT acquisition: yes. The asset bought enters the section 104 pool at the trade value.Income: no
Selling crypto for fiatCGT disposal: yes. Proceeds are the trade value, less the trading fee as an allowable cost. Recap's default: ‘Trade valuation method’ Quote for portfolios created after 2022-05-25 (which side of the trade drives valuation). Configurable: Disposed.CGT acquisition: no. Fiat received is not a chargeable asset, so nothing enters a pool.Income: no
Transferring between your own accountsCGT disposal: no. Any crypto fee on a transfer is a disposal of the fee asset; Nexo Pro's API reports no transfer fee. A matched transfer with a quantity difference records the excess as an acquisition, or a shortfall as a zero-value disposal.CGT acquisition: noIncome: no

This table shows how Recap classifies each transaction type by default. Some treatments — such as the acquisition cost used for airdrops — are configurable in Recap. This is general information, not tax advice; consult a qualified tax professional about your circumstances.

This table shows Recap's default classification for common Nexo Pro transactions. It is not an exhaustive schedule or a ruling. Treatment depends on your circumstances and jurisdiction, and you can recategorise any transaction where yours differ. Confirm your position with a qualified tax adviser.

What counts as a disposal

Selling crypto for fiat and swapping one crypto asset for another, including trades into stablecoins, are disposals for capital gains purposes, each measured against your cost-basis pool, and every asset-for-asset trade is also an acquisition of the asset you receive. Buying crypto with fiat is not itself a disposal but sets the cost your later disposals are measured against, and transfers between your own accounts are not disposals.

Refer to our tax guides for a more detailed look at crypto tax rules.

What's in your Nexo Pro tax report

Recap turns your full Nexo Pro history into a single tax report: capital gains and losses worked out under the rules for your jurisdiction, high-volume and crypto-to-crypto trading pooled correctly, stablecoin trades treated as the disposals they are, and a clear year-by-year summary you can file yourself or hand straight to your accountant.

Common Nexo Pro tax challenges and how Recap solves them

Nexo Pro accounts produce a few recurring tax problems, especially active ones. Here is how Recap handles each one:

Trading activity

  • Crypto-to-crypto trades. Coin-for-coin trades are disposals, not simple swaps. Recap treats each one correctly.
  • Stablecoin trades. Moving into or out of a stablecoin is a disposal. Recap captures each one rather than mistaking it for a transfer.

Volume and history

  • High trading volume. Hundreds of trades are slow to reconstruct by hand. Recap imports the whole history and calculates the gain or loss on every disposal automatically.

Stablecoins and detailed history

  • A detailed history. Active accounts span thousands of entries. Recap combines them into a single cost-basis position so nothing is missed.

Why Nexo Pro users choose Recap

Nexo Pro users often choose Recap because an active order-book account carries high volume across many pairs, which is painful to reconcile by hand. Rather than rebuilding it manually, you can connect by API and see your gains and losses reconciled in one report, ready to file or share with your accountant.
