This policy explains how Recap Technologies Limited (company number 11218777, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, England, WC2H 9JQ, ICO registration ZB735084) uses cookies and similar technologies on recap.io and app.recap.io. It applies to website visitors and to people using individual, company or accounting firm accounts.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal data, our lawful bases, recipients, international transfers, retention and your rights. Anonymous website statistics run by default and can be switched off in Cookie Settings. Measurement and marketing run only if you switch them on there. Accepting the Terms of Service or creating an account does not give consent to measurement or marketing. Signing in to the app does load the support chat, because in-app support is part of the service you asked for; section 3 explains that.

Cookies are small records stored by your browser. We also use browser storage, such as local storage and IndexedDB, to run Recap and retain information between visits. Scripts, tracking pixels and identifiers in links can send information about a visit or interaction to us or a provider, even without setting a cookie.
These technologies can involve personal data, such as your IP address, browser or account identifiers, the pages you view and what you click. An identifier counts as personal data even if it does not contain your name.
| Purpose | Services and information involved | Your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Provide and secure your account | Recap and Auth0 / Okta use authentication and session information to sign you in and protect your account. Google or Apple set their own cookies if you sign in with them. Recap also uses browser storage for local app data, encrypted portfolio information and settings needed to provide the features you request. | Always on. Needed to sign you in and run Recap. |
| Remember your choices | Recap's consent manager records whether you accept or reject optional categories. Browser storage remembers the country version of the site you chose and, for seven days, a partner offer you arrived through. | Always on, so that we can remember what you chose. |
| Process payments and prevent abuse | Stripe uses transaction, device and session information during payment or subscription management, including for any payment method you choose inside Stripe's checkout. Vercel BotID checks that website enquiry forms are submitted by a person rather than automated software. | Always on while you pay or submit a form. Separate statistics and optional tracking follow the choices below. |
| Provide chat | On the website, Intercom loads only if you accept marketing. In the app, Intercom code loads when the app opens and the messenger starts when you sign in: it identifies you to Intercom so your conversation history is available, sends your app version and the number of accounts and transactions in your portfolio so support can help without asking, and sets Intercom's own cookies while you are signed in. | Website chat loads only if you accept marketing. In-app chat is part of the signed-in service. |
| Show embedded content and search | Reviews, videos, booking pages, maps, certification badges and images on the website are loaded from Trustpilot, Mux, YouTube, Cal.com, Google Maps, Blockmark and Sanity (our content system, which also keeps a live connection open while you read). Blog search is provided by Algolia, which receives your search terms and IP address as you type. Those providers receive your IP address and request details when the content loads. | Content that does not require optional tracking may load with the page or when requested. Where a provider uses non-necessary storage or tracking, we load it only after consent to the relevant purpose and explain the choice beside the content. A provider's own notice does not replace that consent. |
| Anonymous website statistics | On recap.io, Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights produce anonymous aggregate visit and performance statistics so we can operate and repair the website. This uses short-lived identifiers without analytics cookies or persistent browser identifiers. Individual-level input is removed after aggregation; results are not linked to your account or used for profiling or advertising. | On by default. You can switch statistics off in Cookie Settings. This limited use relies on the UK statistical purposes exception and does not require prior consent. |
| Measurement: understand how you use the website and product | With measurement consent, PostHog can store an identifier in your browser so that visits and journeys can be linked over time. This is separate from the anonymous aggregate statistics described above. In the app, product analytics can associate events with your Recap user ID and email address. | Off until you accept measurement on the website, or turn on product analytics in the app (section 4). |
| Marketing: measure advertising | Google Ads, Meta Pixel and Reddit Pixel receive visit or event information and device or browser identifiers to measure campaigns and support advertising. | Off until you accept marketing. |
| Apply a referral discount | If you arrive through a referral or affiliate link, Tolt sets a first-party cookie for 60 days so that your discount is applied and the person who referred you is credited. If you create an account during that period, Recap stores the referral against your account so a later subscription is still attributed. The link you followed offers you a discount; the cookie is how we apply it. | Set when you arrive through a referral link, and we tell you so. Used only to apply your discount and credit the referrer. |
Advertising providers may combine information from our website with information they hold about you, including an account with them, to measure or personalise advertising. See Google's explanation of partner-site data, Meta's Privacy Policy and Reddit's Privacy Policy.
Not every service runs on every page. Payment and login providers may open their own pages, where their notices and controls also apply.
Before clearing Recap's app storage, save your secret phrase and any data you need. Clearing site data can remove locally stored information needed to access your portfolios.
On the website, use Cookie Settings in the footer to accept, reject or change categories. Statistics is on by default and can be switched off; measurement and marketing are off until you accept them. You can reject optional tracking and continue using Recap. If you decline website marketing, the website chat widget does not load; you can contact us at hello@recap.io instead.
In the app, you can choose product analytics during setup and change it in account settings using Improve features by sharing product usage. This account setting is separate from the website's browser preferences. To change both, use both controls. You may need to repeat website choices on another browser or device, or after clearing browser storage.
Withdrawing measurement or marketing consent stops tracking for that purpose from then on. Switching statistics off stops the statistics collection described in section 3 from then on; it does not delete aggregate results, which cannot identify you. Cookie choices and marketing email preferences are separate; changing one does not change the other.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser. Blocking necessary storage may stop login, payments or other requested features from working.
Your browser generally clears session storage when the browser session ends. Persistent cookies have an expiry time and may be renewed when you use the relevant service. Local storage and IndexedDB do not have an automatic browser expiry; records remain until the app or browser removes them, or you clear them.
Storage that Recap itself sets, or arranges, on the website:
| Storage | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
Consent record (c15t) | Remembers your accept, reject or customised choices | 12 months |
Country preference (RECAP_LOCALE) | Remembers the country version of the site you chose | 12 months |
Partner referral (recap_referral_partner) | Shows the partner offer you arrived through | 7 days |
Referral discount (tolt_referral) | Applies your referral discount and credits the referrer | 60 days |
PostHog identifier (ph_..._posthog) | Links your visits over time; set only after you accept measurement or turn on product analytics | 12 months |
| Intercom cookies | Keep your chat session and history; set only when the website chat loads or you sign in to the app | Set by Intercom |
Other providers listed in section 3 set their own storage under the categories above and decide its lifetime. Information already sent to a provider has a separate retention period, explained in our Privacy Policy and the relevant provider's notice. Deleting a cookie does not delete information the provider has already received.
We update this policy when our technologies or purposes change. If a change requires fresh consent, we ask before using the technology for that purpose.
