# Automated Linea Crypto Tax Calculator

The easiest way to calculate your Linea crypto taxes with Recap. Connect your account in seconds for a secure, read-only sync.

A Linea account can look tidy in a block explorer and still be unreadable at tax time. Bridging ETH over from Ethereum, swapping through a Linea DEX, and staking LP tokens in a pool all land as separate log entries. Gas fees pile up alongside them. None of it adds up to a running total of what you owe.

Recap reads that activity directly from your Linea account. We classify each entry against the rules for your jurisdiction, then turn it into a clear report. File it yourself, or hand it to your accountant. This page covers what counts as a disposal, what counts as income, and what we specifically handle on Linea.

## Why Linea tax can be difficult to calculate manually

Linea is Consensys's zero-knowledge rollup, proving its activity back to Ethereum rather than using the fraud-proof model that optimistic rollups like Base rely on. That changes how bridge deposits and withdrawals show up in your history, and a few things tend to trip people up:

### Bridging onto Linea and moving between your own accounts

Moving ETH or tokens onto Linea through its canonical bridge is not a disposal, and neither is sending crypto between accounts you control. Both are easy to mistake for a taxable event, or to lose inside a list of otherwise ordinary transfers.

### On-chain swaps and DeFi trades

Swapping one token for another through a Linea DEX such as Etherex or Uniswap is a disposal, even though no ordinary money changes hands. It is also an acquisition of whatever you receive. Each swap needs its own valuation at the time it happened.

### Network and gas fees

Gas on Linea is paid in ETH, so every fee is itself a disposal of the ETH spent. It also becomes part of the cost basis of the transaction it belongs to. A busy month of small transactions can hide dozens of these.

### DeFi staking rewards and airdrops

Staking LP tokens in a DeFi pool pays out reward tokens that count as income when they arrive. An airdrop claimed from a distributor contract is an acquisition rather than income. Both are easy to leave sitting in the account and overlook.

## How to add your Linea account to Recap

Linea imports into Recap from your account address, the same way as our other EVM chains. Add your public address, and Recap reads your on-chain history automatically, including receipts, sends, swaps, bridge deposits, staking and gas. Recap values each entry with our fair-market valuation engine and applies the tax rules for your jurisdiction. You can also import a CSV of your Linea activity through recap-csv if you would rather not connect the address directly.

## How are Linea transactions taxed?

Tax treatment depends on the transaction type and where you are tax resident. Here is how the main Linea activities are generally treated:

This table shows Recap's default classification for common Linea transactions. It is not an exhaustive schedule or a ruling. Treatment depends on your circumstances and jurisdiction, and you can recategorise any transaction where yours differ. Confirm your position with a qualified tax adviser.

Swapping one token for another, including trades into stablecoins, is both a disposal and an acquisition. Each side is measured against your cost-basis pool. Bridging onto Linea and moving crypto between your own accounts are not disposals. Staking rewards from Linea DeFi protocols are treated as income at the value you receive them. Airdrops are recorded as an acquisition only. Refer to our [tax guides](https://recap.io/guides/crypto-tax-uk-a-comprehensive-guide) for a more detailed look at crypto tax rules.

## What's in your Linea tax report

Recap turns your Linea activity into a single tax report. Swaps become the disposals and acquisitions they are, while bridge deposits and transfers between your own accounts are excluded from any gain or loss. Gas fees count as disposals in their own right and are also attached as costs to the transactions they relate to. DeFi staking rewards and airdrops get classified correctly too. The result is a clear year-by-year summary of your gains, losses and income, ready to file yourself or hand straight to your accountant.

## What we decode on Linea that a block explorer does not

A block explorer shows you a list of transactions. It does not tell you which ones are taxable, or catch the details that change the answer. Two things stand out on Linea specifically:

### The bridge is not auto-paired the way an OP-stack rollup's is

Base, Optimism and the other OP-stack Superchain networks get automatic bridge-leg pairing. A deposit on one side and a withdrawal on the other are matched into a single labelled transfer. Linea is a zero-knowledge rollup rather than an OP-stack chain, so it is not part of that matching yet. Each leg of a Linea bridge transaction still imports as an ordinary entry that creates no gain or loss by default. You may see two separate entries rather than one paired transfer.

### DeFi staking read from the pool's own events

Where a Linea staking pool emits standard stake, unstake and reward events, Recap reads both the stake and the unstake side, so the staked amount does not sit in your balances after you withdraw, and the reward lands as income. The same event-based reading applies to swaps and liquidity activity through Uniswap-style routers and CoW Swap on Linea. Each is decoded automatically rather than left as an unlabelled contract call. Pools that use their own event formats import as ordinary transfers for you to recategorise.

## Why Linea users choose Recap

Linea users often choose Recap because raw on-chain activity is slow and error-prone to reconcile by hand. It spans bridge deposits, swaps, gas and DeFi rewards, each landing as its own entry. Bring your account into Recap, and see your gains, losses and income reconciled in one report, ready to file yourself or share with your accountant.

## FAQs

### Are Linea transactions taxable?

Whether a Linea transaction is taxable depends on what it is, not the fact that it happened on Linea. A swap or a sale is generally a disposal, and DeFi staking rewards are generally income. Bridging onto Linea or moving crypto between your own accounts is not taxable by default. Recap classifies each entry from your account so you don't have to work out the pattern by hand.

### How do I add my Linea account to Recap?

Add your public Linea address in Recap, and we read your on-chain history automatically, including swaps, bridge deposits, staking and gas. You can also import a CSV of your Linea activity through recap-csv if you would rather not connect the address directly.

### Is bridging onto Linea taxable?

No. Moving crypto onto Linea through the canonical bridge is not a disposal. It is the same asset arriving on a different network, rather than a sale. Our [UK tax guide](https://recap.io/guides/crypto-tax-uk-a-comprehensive-guide) covers transfers and disposals in more detail.

### How are staking rewards and airdrops on Linea taxed?

Recap treats reward tokens from DeFi staking pools that emit standard reward events as income at the value you receive them. That value then becomes their cost basis for a later sale. Airdrops are recorded as an acquisition rather than income. Read more in our [UK](https://recap.io/guides/crypto-tax-uk-a-comprehensive-guide) and [US](https://recap.io/en-US/guides/us-crypto-tax-guide) crypto tax guides.

### Does Recap handle Linea network and gas fees?

Yes. Gas on Linea is paid in ETH, so Recap records each fee as a disposal of the ETH spent. It also becomes part of the cost basis of the transaction it relates to. That applies whether the transaction is a swap, a stake or a plain send.
